Capturing Sweet Memories at Guadalupe Oak Grove Park

One of the greatest joys of being a photographer is watching families grow year after year—and there’s something so special about being invited back to document each new milestone. I’ve been photographing this sweet girl since she was just a few months old. I had the honor of capturing her first birthday party, and last year I was lucky enough to see her family again for a fall session at Guadalupe Oak Grove Park in San Jose.

This park is truly a gem for fall sessions. It offers that gorgeous golden glow as the leaves shift colors, giving every photo that warm, autumn feel we all love. The wide trails are perfect for families with little ones—safe, easy to navigate, and never too crowded. It’s also dog-friendly, which means you can bring your furry family member along for the session (one family even brought their cat, which was such a fun surprise!).

What makes sessions here so special is the space for kids to just be kids. I always aim to get a few posed family shots for holiday cards and keepsakes, but the real magic happens when children are free to explore. Watching her walking along the trails, with that curiosity and joy only toddlers have, was one of those moments you never forget. She even gave her sweet dog a huge kiss! Totally impromptu, unplanned, but I am glad I came ready to capture these exact moments together.

Sometimes the best photos aren’t the big smiles—they’re the serious faces, the wonder in their eyes, the way they grow taller and more confident each year. It’s an incredible privilege to see these families season after season, to witness the changes, and to freeze little slices of their story in time.

Guadalupe Oak Grove Park isn’t just a backdrop—it’s a place where memories are made. And for families looking for that golden fall vibe, safe open space, and a spot that’s welcoming to every member of the family (pets included!), it’s one of my favorite locations to recommend.
